The Samsung Galaxy S9 mocks the iPhone X notch and Face ID

Yesterday, when Samsung finally unveiled its Galaxy S9 and S9+ flagship, it was clear that a lot of focus had been placed on the camera. With dual aperture cameras and curved displays, Samsung touted their latest device โ€œfor the visual and social generationโ€, leading them to take some jabs at Apple.

Samsung patted themselves on the back for the creation of an Infinity Display that sees the screen stretch to the edges of the front of the device, making it so that you canโ€™t even tell โ€œwhere the screen ends.โ€ Samsung claim that they couldnโ€™t have achieved this if it wasnโ€™t for a complete lack of notch. A notch similar to whatโ€™s seen on the iPhone X.

โ€œWhen we released the Infinity Display, most people had never seen anything like it. Its ground breaking design offered more screen in less space, and quickly set a new industry standard.

With the S9, weโ€™ve built on this foundation, taking the same immersive end-to-end display, and refining it even further. Weโ€™ve created a design so sleek and unified, you can hardly tell where the screen ends.

And as always, you know, thereโ€™s no notch.โ€

After โ€œlistening to feedbackโ€, Samsung also decided to adjust the fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S9 rather than forgoing it completely like Apple.

โ€œTake the fingerprint scanner for example, which we all know is one of the most popular ways we like to unlock our phones. Which is why we didnโ€™t get rid of it. Instead we listed carefully to your feedback and we moved the fingerprint scanner directly below the camera.โ€

However, what we shouldnโ€™t fail to forget is that Samsung has attempted a removal of the fingerprint scanner before but the companyโ€™s attempts at facial recognition have been a flop. Perhaps this is the reason that they have decided to remain with the fingerprints.
