Samsung has been “progressing rapidly” in negotiations with Apple to supply OLED displays for future iPhones, according to the Korean tech news site ETNews, which cites internal sources.
The report claims that the South Korea-based Samsung Display is “reorganizing its business tactic” to expand its manufacturing of OLED displays – partly due to emerging signs of a potential new contract with Apple to supply such displays for future iPhones.
ETNews even says that, should the two companies put pen to paper, Samsung Display could dedicate entire OLED lines to manufacturing for Apple – and that new lines could push it ahead of LG Display as the Cupertino company’s leading display supplier.
Evidence of future OLED screen iPhones had been reported by another Korean news source in June. Should the deal with Samsung indeed go ahead, brighter and sharper imagery would be the clearest benefit of the adoption of OLED panels for iPhone models.
