The mobile payments service Samsung Pay has made good progress in its first year, with almost 100 million unique transactions having been made via the Apple Pay rival, Samsung has announced.
In a press release, Injong Rhee, CTO and EVP of Software and Services at Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Communications Business, declared that Samsung Pay excels by “providing services that are simple, secure and virtually anywhere”, while “strong consumer adoption signals a shift in behavior and demonstrates the continued enthusiasm for a safer, smarter and better mobile wallet.”
The company added that, across the United States and South Korea, over 4 million membership cards are registered to Samsung Pay – while, globally, over 440 bank issuers support the service. In Korea alone, over 2 trillion won in transactions, more than 25% of which online, have been processed.
Samsung Galaxy devices offering Samsung Pay include this year’s Note 7, S7 and S7 Edge, plus 2016 models of the A5, A7 and A9. However, the service’s availability can vary depending on region and market condition.
