Samsung’s head of mobile JK Shin has been allowed to keep his job, despite speculation that he was about to be moved amidst falling sales. Stats have shown the tech giant to have underperformed all year, with appliances and TV boss BK Yoon having been rumored to take Shin’s place. Sales of the Galaxy S5 have been underwhelming, coming in at 40% lower than the Korean company had predicted. Acting chairman Jay Y Lee has decided to keep Shin in place for the time being after a minor reshuffle.
It’s thought that the firm are hoping to avoid any major upheaval after Lee’s father Lee Kun-hee suffered a heart attack last spring. Lee is expected to take over at some point in 2015, and that’s when many are suggesting that bigger changes will be made. Shin has run the mobile division of Samsung since 2009 and overseen a number of successes before sales began to slump. Samsung head of corporate communications June Lee said “JK Shin has made big contributions in making Samsung Electronics the number one maker of mobile phones.”
