Samsung Tells Partners to Stop Sales and Exchanges of Note 7

Following persistent and widespread reports of its Galaxy Note 7 exploding, Samsung has revealed that it will tell all carrier and retail partners globally to stop sales and exchanges of the ill-fated handset.

While reports of igniting batteries in the Note 7 began shortly after the phone’s release in August, it was the following month that Samsung announced that it would replace the fire-prone units. That recall program appears to have failed, following reports of replacement Note 7 units also exploding.

In a statement on its website, Samsung says that it is “working with relevant regulatory bodies to investigate the recently reported cases involving the Galaxy Note 7.” The company added: “Consumers with either an original Galaxy Note 7 or replacement Galaxy Note 7 device should power down and stop using the device and take advantage of the remedies available.”
