Seven iPhone models rank among the world’s top 10 bestselling smartphones during 2021

iPhone 12 Pro Silver, Pacific Blue, Gold, & Graphite

Apple dominated the list of the strongest-selling individual smartphone models across the world for 2021. Versions of the iPhone took up all the top five slots, and another two iPhone variants featured in the rest of the top 10.

According to the global industry analysis firm Counterpoint, the iPhone 12 was the bestselling individual model of smartphone on the planet for last year as a whole, taking a 2.9% share. It was followed by the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which accounted for 2.2%, and the iPhone 13, with 2.1%.

The latter device’s ranking is particularly impressive, given that it has only actually been available to consumers since September 2021. Rounding out the top five were the iPhone 12 Pro (2.1%) and the iPhone 11 (2.0%). Further down the top 10, meanwhile, could be found the iPhone SE 2020 (eighth, with 1.6%) and the iPhone 13 Pro Max (the 1.3% share of which gave it ninth place).

Taking seven spots in the top 10 is the best that Apple has ever done in this ranking. The top three models alone contributed 41% to the Cupertino company’s total sales.

It’s worth bearing in mind, though, that the iPhone 12 range was launched later in 2020 than had historically been typical for Apple’s new smartphones. This effectively pushed some of the 2020 holiday-season demand into the first months of 2021.

The other smartphones to make Counterpoint’s top-10 list were Samsung’s Galaxy A12 at number six (2.0%), Xiaomi’s Redmi 9A at number seven (1.9%), and the Xiaomi Redmi 9, which managed a 1.1% global share – good enough for 10th position.
