The first reviews of the new Apple TV have just hit the web ahead of the box’s retail release tomorrow, but one surprising omission is Siri search for the TV version of Apple Music. Fortunately, Apple has just confirmed that this feature will be in place by “the beginning of next year”.
The Siri universal search function, which was demonstrated extensively by Apple Senior Design Producer Jen Folse at the new Apple TV’s reveal last month, eases searching through content from a wide variety of providers. Also revealed in September was the version of Apple Music redesigned for viewing on television screens.
The news of Siri’s impending arrival on this version of Apple Music comes from BuzzFeed, which has reported receiving confirmation from Apple. As the news site explains: “This means that using the Apple TV remote control, people will be able to say, “Play ‘Hotline Bling’ or “Play the newest Taylor Swift album,” and Siri will take it from there.”
This development for Apple Music should also further help it to make ground on music streaming market leader Spotify; the Apple offering has already got off to a promising start for user numbers.
