Siri and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson star in new ‘movie’ by Apple

Apple has partnered with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson to star in a new movie with Siri, that has just gone live on Apple’s YouTube channel and on Apple.com today.

The big announcement

Seemingly completely out of the blue, the film was announced yesterday by Johnson who tweeted:

“Teamed w/ @Apple to make the biggest, coolest, sexiest, funnest (is that a word?) movie ever. Drops TOMORROW! #ROCKxSIRI #DominateYourDay”

A new era for Siri?

Although, a seemingly strange move by Apple, the new release comes as Apple prepares to release the Siri-based HomePod and acts as a way for Apple to showcase their product in an engaging way.  The HomePod will battle against Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for the top spot, and perhaps Apple hoped this new movie would help it stand out.

In reality, the new ‘movie’ is only 4 minutes long and leaves much to be desired

The movie is a nearly 4 minutes long comedy sketch, featuring the Rock displaying his insane work ethic as his trusty assistant Siri, who is mentioned 13 times, answers him with perfect accuracy every time.  We can’t say we’ve had the same great results from Siri, but perhaps Siri will be more accurate than ever on the new HomePod.

The ‘movie’ features Johnson using Siri for weather updates and to read him his last email while he races in a car, pilots a plane to Rome and helps renovate the Sistine Chapel.

Watch the movie and judge for yourself if you think Apple’s marketing move has paid off, or if it is nothing more than a mildly entertaining video.
