This game came completely out of nowhere. Even the top game analysts and dedicated news websites from around the globe were shocked by this release. We thought the only two officially licensed Walking Dead games in development were the current releases from Tell Tale Games, and an upcoming release that’s slotted to hit consoles early next year.
Skybound obviously had the wool pulled firmly over everyone’s eyes, because they managed to crank out a full scale iOS title without so much as a warning. Don’t get me wrong, though, this is a very welcome surprise and a great change of pace from what we’ve come to know as the “traditional” Walking Dead game.
It’s not about having quick reflexes or sharp firearms skills in Skybound’s The Walking Dead: Assault iOS release. It’s instead about placing yourself into the shoes of some famous Walking Dead characters and using your wits and strategic vision to escape some seriously one-sided fights. You’ll have to level each of your characters up, place them into defensive and offensive positions in each stage, and ensure that all of your bases are covered in this unique, top-down experience.
The game is one part action and one part strategy, and it should appeal to a wide variety of play types. It’s casual enough to appeal to most gamers, but it has a difficulty scale that is “hardcore” enough to appeal to the more focused, determined gamers out there.
Don’t go thinking this is just some sloppily-thrown-together iOS release, though. This game was a serious plan rather than just an afterthought or a ploy for cash flow. Skybound is the comic book company responsible for the Walking Dead series, and the group held no punches when they developed this title. Their hard work and dedication is apparent from the first time you open this app. It’s important to understand, though, that this isn’t based on the AMC television show, but rather the original comic creation.
The Walking Dead: Assault isn’t going to break your bank either. In fact, you can grab this brand new title for USD $1.99 right now (for a limited time). Two bucks is a steal for a title like this, so trust me when I say you’re getting a great deal here. Be sure to grab your copy from the Apple App Store today.
