Skype Updates iPad App to Support Slide Over and Split View

The Skype app has just joined many other apps in being updated to support iOS 9’s new iPad multitasking features, Slide Over and Split View. This can make Skype chats less cumbersome in various ways.

In a new blog post, the Skype team claims that, due to this change, sharing URLs and photos during Skype conversations can now be “even better” on Skype 6.3. As shown in the above image, another app like Maps can now be kept open and active while a Skype chat is in progress – making it easier to look up information, such as about bars and restaurants, before reporting findings to friends.

However, before you start using the updated Skype app on your iPad, you should keep in mind that not all of the iOS 9-compatible iPads – in other words, every iPad except the first generation model in 2010 – support both Slide Over and Split View. Slide Over is available for the iPad Air or later and iPad Mini 2 or later, while Split View is currently limited to the iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 4 and upcoming iPad Pro.
