Snapchat parent Snapโs previously announced camera-equipped eyewear, Spectacles, is available to buy from today. But you will have to be discerning and fast on your feet to get hold of them, as they will initially be available only in peculiar, yellow vending machines set to move around the US.
The Spectacles, which are intended for capturing 10-second snippets of video and cost $130 each, can be picked up from such a machine, called a Snapbot, on Venice Beach, near Snapโs Southern California HQ, reports Adweek. The video below shows what to watch out for.
Approach a Snapbot and it will show you a preview of Spectacles video. And, once youโve used a credit or debit card to purchase a pair of Spectacles, you will be able to capture clips โ or, as Snap calls them, โmemoriesโ โ straight away, as the deviceโs battery will already be charged. The first-person videos caught by the Spectacles can be easily shared on the image messaging app Snapchat.
If all of that has gotten you excited, keep in mind that you can keep track of where Snapbots will turn up next by visiting the Spectacles website. For months, it will be solely through these Snapbots that Snap offers the Spectacles for purchase โ but probably even just catching up with a Snapbot will feel like a triumph in itself.
