The fourth time’s the charm for PlayStation, with the latest console in the product line soaring ahead of the Microsoft competition in sales. Now, Andrew House, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, has claimed that the console’s success is benefiting the games industry as a whole.
In an interview with The Guardian published today, House pointed out how, with smartphones and tablets having become increasingly popular gaming platforms, the PlayStation 4 “launched against a background of considerable media skepticism about the role of consoles overall”. However, he credited the console with instilling “a sense of returned confidence” to games developers and publishers.
House, who recently used the below YouTube video to announce a tantalizing exclusive partnership with legendary Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, further explained that “if developers are feeling confident that there’s a fan-base that wants their content, then they will tend to take more creative risks.”
