Sony Bringing ‘Remote Play’ of PS4 Games to Mac, PC “Soon”

Playing PlayStation 4 games on your Mac or PC will be a genuine possibility before too long, as Sony has announced that it will be bringing its Remote Play feature to these platforms “soon”.

Remote Play allows gamers with a PlayStation 4 to stream and play their games for the console on various other devices. However, the feature is currently only available with a number of Sony devices – including the PlayStation Vita, PlayStation TV and some recently-released Xperia-branded smartphones and tablets.

In November, Sony executive Shuhei Yoshida tweeted that his company had a Remote Play app for Mac and PC in the works – and this news has been further confirmed in a new post on the official PlayStation US blog.

The blog post says that Remote Play will arrive on Windows PC and Mac “soon”, but quickly points out that the beta release of the PlayStation 4’s next significant system software update, set to arrive tomorrow, won’t include the feature.

Though physical use of a PlayStation 4 remains necessary for Remote Play, as MacRumors notes, all new PS4 games, bar those using peripherals like PlayStation Move, must be Remote Play compatible.
