Sony have pulled the plug on plans to produce a movie about late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, reports claim. Jobs died of cancer in 2011, and Sony bought the rights to turn his life story into a film shortly after. The film was to be based on writer Walter Isaacson’s biography of Mr. Jobs. Rumors about who would play the computing pioneer varied wildly, with Christian Bale, Michael Fassbender and Leonardo DiCaprio all cited as potential stars.
The film has now apparently been cancelled after Sony Pictures realised they had no time to produce it. It was to be directed by Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting man Danny Boyle, but it transpired that he would be too busy in 2015, as would Fassbender. However, the project may still go ahead, with rumors suggesting Universal Pictures are ready to buy the rights to it.
Studios have been interested in dramatizing Jobs story for a number of years. Jobs remains a computing icon, with many commentators that Apple have lost their way since his passing and struggled to come up game-changing new innovations without him. Jobs was driven out of Apple in the 1980s but returned when its fortunes dipped a decade later, making it the most valuable company in the US and launching a series of iconic devices such as the iPhone, iPad and iPod.
