Retro gaming fans rejoice – it’s now official that SNK will be releasing a Mini Neo Geo. In a teaser tweet last month, the company hinted at something that was to come in celebration of its 40th anniversary. After the success of the NES and SNES Classics for Nintendo, it’s not really much of a surprise that the Mini Neo Geo will soon be gracing us with its presence.
As of yet, there’s no firm release date for the mini console but the company has released some physical specifications. The console will have a 3.5-inch screen that is housed in a tiny arcade cabinet, an HDMI out, headphone jack, and two controller ports.
This was announced via SNK’s official Facebook page, with the company stating that it will include 40 nostalgic titles from the NeoGeo system that was first released back in 1990. Unfortunately, they declined to say which titles would be included in the system but there have been screenshots to suggest the likes of Metal Slug, Metal Slug 2, Samurai Shodown II, Samurai Shodown V Special, King of Fighters ’97, King of Fighters ’98, Real Bout Fatal Fury, and Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers.
The Mini Neo Geo will also come in two versions: one for Japanese audiences and the other for international release. The Japanese version will sport the bright orange classic of the NeoGeo MVS cabinets whereas the international release will be black, blue, and white. It’s been rumored to be in the $100-150 price range.
