Speakal’s iHog Portable Turns Your iDevice Into A Music Player

I love iTunes, Spotify, Pandora, and all the other excellent music outlets that my iDevices have to offer, but I often find myself a little let down by the lack of power in the iPhone or iPods speakers.

Let’s be honest though in saying that most devices, Apple or not, lack the necessary speaker power to present songs like they should be heard. Built in speakers are often quiet, susceptible to overloading, and have a rather “tinny” sound about them. And if you really want to enjoy all the music that your device has to offer, you’re probably going to want to invest in some headphones.

But what about those times that you want to dance around, untethered by ear buds, or what if you want to listen to music with a friend? For these scenarios, you’re probably going to want a dock or a speaker system. But why settle for any old normal set up when you can have something that is powerful, functional, portable, stylish, and most of all, fun? The iHog Portable, by Speakal, has all of those qualities and manages to wrap them into a cute little cartoon-styled swine. And although many may consider this “just another speaker dock,” the iHog Portable actually offers some unique features.

For one, this cute little dock has 5 built-in speakers, placed in a variety of locations around the casing. There are two speakers atop the pig’s body, which look like ears, two within the cases “eyes” and one large one that sits underneath the case. The entire creature is “elevated” up by way of four little feet, which help the bottom speaker to “breathe” without hindering its sound. These five speakers give the iHog Portable a 360 degree sphere of sound, and it will emanate music clearly no matter what “listening position” you are in.

This dock outputs 25+ Watts of electricity and can be taken anywhere thanks to its portable lithium battery that boasts 6 – 8 hours of continual listening. You can also tether the dock to an AC adapter, which also acts as a charger for the battery. This little character also features a 15 Watt subwoofer and has a “bass knob” on the back for full control over the device’s “reflex bass.”

The top of the accessory allows connection from a 30-pin iPod or iPhone device, and interchangeable clips accommodate a variety of other products. There is even a 3.5 mm connector on the back of the product that allows you to hook it up to a computer. Another unique feature is the “touch” volume controls that let you turn the device up and down by simply touching the ears. If you want even better access though, the product comes with a handy remote control.

The iHog Portable has a price of USD $129.99 which might seem like a lot, but consider that it has such a unique look and so many speakers. It comes in two colors, pink and white. So if you’re one of those individuals that loves to take your music with you, and you don’t like the “tied down” feeling of headphones, then be sure to give this product a look.
