Star Wars Eclipse has been teased in a stunning new trailer – but its release could be ‘years’ away.
The Eclipse title was recently announced by developer Quantic Dream, and though the initial hype got a lot of people excited about a potential Star Wars game, it’s worth holding your horses for now. According to industry insider Tom Henderson, the game is being written by Quantic Dream in Paris, with David Cage involved.
He added that “Eclipse is believed to be around 3-4 years away MINIMUM” and that the developer is currently struggling with hiring staff to work on the project, perhaps due to controversies over the gaming studio and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which has resulted in global staff shortages following the ‘Great Resignation’.
Henderson said that “the biggest on the dev side is their internal QD engine, which wasn’t built for an open-world title. There are currently 60+ job openings for Quantic Dream Paris and 9 in Montreal.”
Speaking of the game during its announcement, Quantic Dream said: “Star Wars Eclipse is the first video game to be set in an uncharted region of the Outer Rim during The High Republic era, known as the golden age of the Jedi.
“The game will build upon Quantic Dream’s expertise in delivering deeply branching narratives and will go beyond their already established acclaim. The player’s choices will be at the heart of the experience, as every decision can have a dramatic impact on the course of the story.”
