The Film Society of Lincoln Center has revealed that the eagerly-anticipated biopic of visionary Apple co-founder Steve Jobs has been chosen as the Centerpiece for the 53rd New York Film Festival. Audiences at the festival will be able to see the movie on October 3, just ahead of its release in US theaters.
The festival’s Centerpiece slot is a prestigious one – and, indeed, in a statement, the NYFF Director and Selection Committee Chair, Kent Jones, called the Universal Studios feature titled Steve Jobs “dramatically concentrated, yet beautifully expansive”. He added that “the actors just soar – you can feel their joy as they bite into the material.”
The movie’s director, Danny Boyle, said he was “honored” that his movie would take up the coveted slot, and “thrilled and terrified too, unlike the subject of our film, who would have taken the whole thing very much in his stride.” He described Steve Jobs as a “complex character who forged our digital age.”
Steve Jobs will doubtless be popular with festival attendees, especially as Michael Fassbender is in the lead role, while Kate Winslet and Seth Rogen play Joanna Hoffman and Steve Wozniak, other influential figures in Apple’s early history. The movie will start screening in US theaters on October 9.
