It’s been almost thirty years since the British synthpop pair Pet Shop Boys topped charts globally with “West End girls”. They will certainly mark the anniversary in style, having just announced their thirteenth studio album, Super, and released a new track, “Inner sanctum”.
Super will be the duo’s first studio compilation in almost three years, following 2013’s Electric. Both of those albums were produced by Stuart Price, whose credits also include Madonna’s Confessions On A Dancefloor. In a statement, the band enthused: “It was fantastic to be back in the studio with Stuart Price continuing from where we left off with Electric and we’re thrilled with the results.”
Their words suggest that the new album will be similar in character to Electric, which was highly dance-driven. “Inner sanctum” has been posted to YouTube, and is now available for download from iTunes. The album can also be preordered through iTunes ahead of its release on April 1.
There’s still a fair time to wait until that date, but fans of the Pet Shop Boys can already read an in-depth interview with the pair, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, about the making of the new album.
