T-Mobile to enter internet TV market in 2018

T-Mobile has announced plans to launch an over-the-top television service early next year, after previously confirming its acquisition of Layer3 TV.

Although details of the new TV service are scarce so far, the company’s CEO said that it will add to the company’s “disruptive” business plans.

“People love their TV, but they hate their TV providers. And worse, they have no real choice but to simply take it – the crappy customer service, clunky technology, and outrageous bills loaded with fees!

“That’s where we come in,” said John Legere, CEO of T-Mobile.

“We’re gonna fix the pain points and bring real choice to consumers across the country. It only makes sense for the Un-carrier to do to TV what we’re doing to wireless: change it for good! Personally, I can’t wait to start fighting for consumers here!”

According to reports, T-Mobile will fold Layer3 TV’s current services to the new T-Mobile TV service, expanding it to a wider US-based audience. The current Layer3 TV service includes select live TV channels, online video streaming, and social media, but the scheme is only on offer in five cities around the United States.
