Apple is reportedly working with a soy sauce company on a clean energy project.
According to a perculiar report from Bloomberg, Apple has partnered with Taiwanās Wan Ja Shan Brewery Co., best known for its popular soy sauce, on rooftop solar arrays.
The report suggests that Apple will help to install solar panels on a 50,000-square-meter soy sauce facility in Taiwan, with CEO Chung telling Bloomberg that he had been working with Apple for 18 months to sign a deal with his solar firm, which launched five years ago.
A press release from the Center for Resource Solutions adds: “Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) is for the first time expanding its Green-e certification program to renewable energy projects based in Asia, starting with pilot projects from Apple in Singapore and Taiwan.
“This program and the successful pilots make it easier for other companies to certify their renewable energy use in the region.
“With support from Apple, CRS developed the standard according to best practices, including input from local stakeholders.
“This development drew from CRSās over two decades of operation in North America, including certification of over half of all voluntary corporate renewable energy sales in the United States.
“It is now available for large buyers and clean energy sellers in Asia, helping businesses verify the quality of their renewable energy sourcing by measuring environmental and local impacts, and providing requirements for public disclosure and tracking.”
Although it’s still unknown exactly what Apple’s involvement in the project is, it seems as though the company is supporting the CRS certification program.
“CRS is also working with Apple to verify its renewable energy project in Ping Tung County, Taiwan,” the company said in a statement.
“Apple worked with a leading soy sauce company, Wan Ja Shan Brewery Co., Ltd., to co-develop this rooftop solar array and secured a long-term contract for Apple to own the projectās renewable energy certificates.”
In July, it was revealed that Apple was the largest corporate user of solar power in the United States in 2018, overtaking the likes of Target, Walmart and Amazon to the title.
Its latest collaboration in Taiwan is another step towards making Apple a more environmentally friendly and renewable company, which can only be a good thing.
