Taylor Swift Buys Erotic Domain Names

Popstar Taylor Swift has purchased the domain names TaylorSwift.porn and TaylorSwift.adult. The purchases were made as part of a public sale by ICANN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers). Although the names are being sold to the public from 1 June, some celebrities and companies have been given the chance to make earlier purchases.

Microsoft Office has already registered Office.porn and Office.adult. Whilst some domains can cost £2,500, .porn and .adult are priced at $99. Other figures that have snapped up domain names include Richard Branson. ICANN, a non-profit group, widened the number of gTLDs in 2011. Just fuor years ago, there were only 22 gTLDs, but there are now almost 550, with new ones being made available each month.

It’s claimed that different wedding to web addresses help users to find what they are looking for, with web addresses that end in .porn or .adult being easier for parents to monitor and block. The domain name .sucks is also being released in June.

Earlier this year, Swift applied to trademark various phrases used in her latest album 1989, including “this sick beat” and “nice to meet you, where you been”. The singer is still refusing to add her music to Spotify and other streaming services.
