Ted Lasso picked up awards at last night’s Emmy Awards.
The Apple TV+ original sitcom scored 20 nominations this year, a record number for a new comedy series, and the show took home some of the biggest accolades, including Outstanding Comedy Series. Ted Lasso’s Jason Sudeikis won for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Brett Goldstein picked up a win for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, and Hannah Waddingham won for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
The show picked up a total of seven wins, including technical achievement awards announced last week, meaning Apple has secured 11 Primetime Emmy wins in 2021.
Apple said it was the first streaming service to secure Emmy wins just two years after eligibility, and it’s a feat that Ted Lasso won the Outstanding Comedy Series award, as it’s the first time a streaming show has won the gong in the award ceremony’s history.
Ted Lasso has been on something of an awards winn, having previously picked up a Peabody award, a SAG award, a number of Critics Choice awards, and the Television Critics Association recogntiion for Program of the Year.
