Tekserve Puts Macs to the Test – Upgrade Times for New OS X Mavericks

Tekserve, the country’s leading Apple reseller and New York City’s store for technology, has put the full range of Mac computers to the test, clocking how long it takes each to upgrade to Apple’s just-released OS X Mavericks operating system.

With every current Mac model on display and free to use at Tekserve’s 23rd Street retail location, their team was perfectly equipped to measure install times as soon as OS X Mavericks was released as a download from Apple’s Mac App Store.

Unsurprisingly, the latest Macs that feature SSDs (Solid State Drives) were significantly faster in completing the upgrade than previous years’ models. Older devices with standard hard drives took the longest–sometimes twice as long as Macs with SSDs.

“Mavericks is a significant update to Apple’s already robust OS X operating system,” said Aaron Freimark, CTO at Tekserve. “We’re happy about the new performance increases it brings to Macs–as well as new and better integration with the iPad and iPhone–and we can’t wait to see how our customers take advantage of it in creative ways.”

Although most upgrades go off without a hitch, Tekserve always recommends their customers practice good upgrade habits. Mac owners should check that their apps and accessories are compatible with Mavericks and back up their data before upgrading.
