The soundtrack for The Get Down, Baz Luhrmann’s new music drama series which premiered on Netflix this week, has been released exclusively on streaming service Apple Music and the iTunes Store.
Set in late 1970s New York, The Get Down follows a group of South Bronx kids who pursue their passions for music and dance as the disco age gives way to the emergence of hip-hop. Luhrmann is executive producer for both the series and soundtrack, which is priced at $13.99 in the iTunes Store.

The Get Down (Original Soundtrack From The Netflix Original Series), to use the album’s full title, features music from both the show’s cast and big name artists including Nas, Zayn, Miguel, Christina Aguilera, Leon Bridges, Nile Rodgers, Donna Summer and Janelle Monáe.
Judging from both the press release announcing the soundtrack’s release date and a more recent MacRumors story, Luhrmann’s record label House of Iona and RCA Records have opted to make this album available solely on Apple platforms – at least for now. Also, Apple Music has curated a playlist for each of the show’s first two episodes, with each collection comprising of roughly a dozen tracks.
