The Morning Show to be rewritten to reflect the coronavirus pandemic

Two people sit in front of a colorful backdrop with large, partially visible letters. The person on the left has long, brown hair and is wearing a black outfit. The person on the right, possibly discussing recent negative reviews of "The Morning Show," has short, gray hair, glasses, and is wearing a suit with a patterned tie.

Apple TV+ original The Morning Show will be rewritten to reflect the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Mark Duplass, who plays Chip Black on the show, executives are currently rewriting the second season – which had already entered filming but later paused due to the COVID-19 crisis – to reflect the “current global situation,” with filming to resume later in 2020.

Speaking to Deadline, Duplass said: “We shot two episodes before we shut down due to the pandemic, but I know that they’re also rewriting, which is crazy because that’s what happened in the first season.

“They had a whole set of scripts [then] and they rewrote everything to include the #MeToo movement, and now we’ve got other, larger, global phenomenon to deal with. I don’t know what they’re doing but I know they’re rewriting.”

Earlier in the week, The Morning Show managed to receive eight Emmy nominations, with Steve Carell and Jennifer Aniston picking up Best Actor and Best Actress nods respectively.

Referencing the nominations, Duplass said that whilst stars like Reese Witherspoon and Gugu Mbatha-Raw did not receive nominations, they put in “great performances”, adding that he was looking forward to getting back to the set to resume filming on the series.

We don’t know exactly when The Morning Show will resume filming, or when it will be available to stream via Apple TV+. Earlier in the year, Apple halted filming on all of its original series due to outbreaks of the virus in Los Angeles.

Some insiders have suggested that filming in LA will resume on a closed set from September, dependent on current outbreaks.
