The Release of the iPhone 5S: A Christmas Wishlist Dilemma

I have been wracking my brain for a couple months now on exactly what I want to do about purchasing an iPhone 5. It hasn’t been because I lack an upgrade from Verizon, or that I haven’t been able to scrounge up enough money. My sole issue for not purchasing the iPhone 5 has been the impending rumors of the iPhone 5S. I have been struggling with the fact that if I purchase the iPhone 5 right now, I may see an iPhone 5S released in a few months. Some of the analysts have made statements that the phone could hit store shelves as early as March. It isn’t a matter of if an iPhone 5S will hit the market, but rather when}.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that it would be incredibly disappointing to see a 5S model become available just months after purchasing the 5 itself. You might recall that a similar scenario happened with the iPad 3 and the iPad 4, which were released around seven months apart. With technology moving so quickly, can we expect to see a new Apple product every six months? That certainly seems to be the growing trend.

What exactly could the iPhone 5S have in it? The leap from the iPhone 4, to the 4S model was substantial. They added Siri, created a sleeker, slimmer design, and boosted the phone’s capabilities. But how exactly can Apple make the iPhone 5 “better enough” to warrant a completely new model? They can’t make it any slimmer without turning it into paper;@ it already boasts some amazing internals, and it has full Siri support. We could see a better camera, and possibly a higher resolution screen, but is that really enough to entice people into buying an entirely new product? We aren’t talking about a two year gap here either, would people really be willing to put money down on a model that is literally only six months newer than the one they currently use?

This current iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S dilemma is probably causing quite a few headaches over this holiday season, too. It’s specifically a problem for anyone who has any iPhone 5 recipients on their Christmas list. Do you risk purchasing them an iPhone 5. only for them to turn around and trade it in on an iPhone 5S in a few months? I know it’s definitely the thought that counts here, but surely that possibility has to be looming somewhere in the back of your mind.

What does everyone else think? Are you concerned about purchasing an iPhone 5 in the near future because of the iPhone 5S rumors? When do you realistically think they will release the iPhone 5S? What about all of you that own an iPhone 5, are you on edge that they might release a new model in the near future? Tell us what you think in the comments section below!
