The Rural Beauty of New Film of Far From the Madding Crowd

When it came to finding suitable filming locations for the new movie adaptation of Far From the Madding Crowd, scenic rural England must have seemed like the only sensible option. This isn’t just because the Thomas Hardy novel is very English in both origin and character, though that certainly would have influenced the filmmakers.

The major reason is that the novel is set in the largely rural English area of Dorset, which has changed little in appearance or feel since Hardy let the ink run dry on his literary masterwork in the late nineteenth century. Hence, there is no shortage of beautiful areas of Dorset to enjoy seeing in Far From the Madding Crowd, which has just arrived on iTunes and stars English rose Carey Mulligan as a young but headstrong farm owner with a number of suitors for her hand in marriage.

You can watch this video to hear the movie’s co-producer, Anita Overland, reveal more about the production crew’s experiences of shooting in Dorset – and then subscribe to AppleMagazine to read more about the movie in our next issue, which will be on iOS Newsstand from tomorrow.
