The Upcoming Steve Jobs Film: What We Know

The visionary co-founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, has already been portrayed in drama, obviously particularly recently by Ashton Kutcher in the 2013 biopic Jobs. However, we are more excited about Steve Jobs, the upcoming biographical film starring Michael Fassbender as Jobs and directed by Danny Boyle. Many details about the film remain hard to come by, but we here bring together many of the most important details in preparation for the release in US cinemas on 9 October.

Steve Jobs will use a screenplay by Aaron Sorkin. In the words of distributor Universal, the film is “set backstage at three iconic product launches and ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac, the film takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicenter.” The narrative will apparently be less conventional than that of the Kutcher film, as it will include three 30-minute scenes each based around a launch of a major Apple product – 1984’s Macintosh, 1988’s NeXT and 1998’s iMac.

Other notable stars in the cast include Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak, who co-founded Apple with Jobs, and Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman, who worked on the original Mac. These actors’ credentials certainly make us excited for Steve Jobs, as does the endorsement of Wozniak himself, who has expressed confidence in Rogen’s ability to effectively bring him to life on-screen.
