Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher was a big success for the streaming service, with Henry Cavill’s interpretation capturing the hearts of fans around the world. And while Netflix is working on the production of the show’s second season, we also know that a prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin, is likewise in the works. There isn’t much information known about the prequel series, but details on the plot and some cast members have been published up to this point.

Sophie Brown

The most recent news states that Sophie Brown has joined the cast as Éile, who is described by the service as “an elite warrior-turned-nomadic musician who is forced to return to the way of the blade after a grand reckoning on the Continent sends her on a quest for vengeance and redemption.” Brown joins Laurence O’Fuarain, who has already been cast as the series lead, named Fjall.

Netflix’s official synopsis for the prequel series states the following: “Set in an elven world 1200 years before the world of The Witcher, Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time – the origin of the very first Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal ‘conjunction of the spheres,’ when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one.”

The Witcher: Blood Origin | Henry Cavill

It is quite obvious that Netflix has big plans for The Witcher franchise and that it aims to repeat the success of HBO’s Game of Thrones with this show. The Witcher, of course, offers more than enough material and we are hopeful that the prequel series is going to be on the same level as the main one starring Henry Cavill.

The Wither: Blood Origin doesn’t have a defined release date yet, but seeing that the cast and crew are actively working on the show, we hope that some news will hit us sooner rather than later!
