What do you think about reversible emojis?

Reversible emojis? Well, according to the latest guidelines proposed by the Unicode Consortium, it may soon be possible to flip your favorite emojis. So, a car or train currently facing to the left or the right would be able to face any direction you please.

Apple and other vendors will be able to choose which emojis are available to reverse and these guidelines should be finalized by the time the next batch of 100 emojis is set to be released in late 2018.

The Unicode Consortium has also proposed some new emoji candidates for this release including a swan, badger, infinity and a pirate flag. Unfortunately, it looks like the long-awaited “frowning pile of poo” emoji has still not made the cut.

Emoji 11.0 was proposed earlier this year and includes 130 new emoji candidates such as faces with red hair, faces with curly or afro hair, faces with no hair and hot and cold faces. Others include a superhero, a fire extinguisher, a test tube, a softball and a bagel.

The current timeline means that iPhones could support these new and reversible emojis in iOS 12 or 12.1, due somewhere between September and November next year.
