Tim Cook Addresses ChatGPT’s Popularity, Calls AI’s Potential ‘Very Interesting’

Apple CEO Tim Cook has offered his thoughts on the rise of ChatGPT and other chatbots, remarking on the “very interesting” potential of artificial intelligence (AI) during the company’s quarterly earnings call. Cook emphasized the need to address “a number of issues” with the technology and underscored the importance of being “deliberate and thoughtful” in applying artificial intelligence.

According to Cook, Apple has already incorporated artificial intelligence and machine learning into several of its products and services, such as Fall Detection, Crash Detection, and the ECG app on the Apple Watch. He assured that the company would continue to integrate AI into its offerings “on a very thoughtful basis”.

A New York Times article in March suggested that the excitement surrounding chatbots highlights how Siri and other traditional voice assistants have “squandered their lead in the AI race,” given Siri’s limited functionality compared to chatbots, even though it debuted over a decade ago.

The Information reported last month that Apple employees have criticized Siri’s shortcomings and are working on large language model improvements, which they hope to implement in an iOS version slated for release next year.
