Apple CEO Tim Cook might have seemed to ring the death knell for PCs when promoting the new iPad Pro this week, but he has since insisted that his company has no plans for a “converged” Mac and iPad.
In an interview with Independent.ie, Cook expressed Apple’s firm belief that “customers are not really looking for a converged Mac and iPad”, due to the worrying possibility of an overly compromised experience. Cook insisted that, instead, “we want to make the best tablet in the world and the best Mac in the world”, whereas “putting those two together would not achieve either”.
He added that his earlier suggestion to The Telegraph that the iPad Pro could replace the PC was not a slight on the Mac, clarifying: “We don’t regard Macs and PCs to be the same”. He did, however, note that Apple has been working to provide more seamless experiences between iOS devices and Macs.
