Apple CEO Tim Cook briefly appeared on ABC show Good Morning America today, chatting about Apple’s involvement in the White House’s educational initiative ConnectED and the big influence of technology in public education.
Cook opined to Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts that “technology has to be a key part” of education, adding: “Too many times today kids aren’t given the right for a great public education and this isn’t right. It’s not fair.”
He further observed that many of today’s schoolchildren are “born in a digital world, but … when it comes time for the 8 o’clock bell to ring, go to an analog world”, which he described as “not engaging.”
Apple is doing its bit to improve this situation with its involvement in ConnectED, which aims to give 99% of US schools access to good technology. Cook was succinct in urging students using an iPad for the first time to “explore, discover, create”.
