Tim Cook to Discuss Anti-Terror Efforts with White House

Apple CEO Tim Cook was reported to be among a number of tech executives set to meet with White House officials today to discuss measures for preventing terror groups recruiting online.

BuzzFeed News reported that the meeting would take place today in San Jose, and see Cook joining executives from other leading tech firms, including Twitter, Facebook, Microsoft and Google.

The focus of the meeting has been cited as the ability of such terror groups as Islamic State to radicalize and recruit individuals through online platforms, including social media. A White House official told BuzzFeed News that the United States government “sees Silicon Valley as an integral part of fighting the propaganda from ISIL and other groups”.

Cook has previously ridiculed the notion of Apple compromising its encryption efforts by installing “a backdoor that’s only for the good guys”, insisting that terror groups could also find a way to exploit it.
