TomTom’s Touch Cardio set to be the cheaper alternative to its predecessor

TomTom have unveiled their new fitness tracker, a cheaper (and slimmer) version of its predecessor the TomTom Touch.

The company have announced that the new Touch Cardio, although still advertised as a budget tracker, will have a range of features including a heart rate monitor and sleep, step and calorie tracking. Unlike the first Touch, this tracker won’t have the body composition analysis feature meaning you won’t be able to calculate fat and muscle through your wrist. Although handy, this feature isn’t always necessary for those looking for a basic daily tracker.

Yet again, TomTom haven’t failed to disappoint when it comes to design. The Touch Cardio is almost identical to its predecessor but slimmer. It has an OLED touchscreen display and is available in a number of colors to suit your preference. The silver touch button that was initially in place for the body composition feature has now been replaced by another that serves as the home button. Arguably, this makes the design of the Touch Cardio a lot more understated.

The features the this new stylish tracker boasts are well worth the price. At roughly $50 less than the TomTom Touch, you’ll get a build-in optical heart rate monitor that will work continually and at an accuracy high enough to rival the Spark 3 running watch. With the accompanying TomTom app, the tracker allows you to see call and text notifications, without having to take your phone out of your pocket and also share your fitness progress with others. The app has also seen a recent redesign, introducing a new UI and the ability to view trends in your daily workouts.

When compared alongside smartwatches, fitness trackers currently dominate the market and saw a recent sales growth of 85 per cent. Despite this, the traditional GPS based wearables that tend to be TomTom’s forté, have seen a lack of interest from some manufacturers. This is why it may be surprising to some that the sports company have decided to release an entry-level fitness tracker that aims to suit the day-to-day lifestyle of its users.

“We are extending our TomTom Touch range with this accessible fitness tracker to help more people understand how fit they are and inspire them to take that first step towards a more active lifestyle”, stated Corrine Vigreux, co-founder and managing director of the company.
