Topless Pics on Teacher’s iPad Get Students Suspended

Four seventh-grade boys have been suspended after accessing inappropriate pictures on their teacher’s iPad. This was a school-issued iPad given to the teacher for classroom use, and she allowed the students to use it, directing them to only stay on two specific apps. They strayed to a photo app and found a picture of a topless woman. It was unclear who the woman was in the photo, as the head was not in the picture. The students were promptly suspended for breaking school rules.

This goes into the category of “It’s not fair.” Realize here that this opinion is coming from a parent of a 16-year-old and 19-year-old as well as someone who is completely enveloped in a technology lifestyle. Yet, teachers still need to take responsibility, and school authorities need to realize that while children do need boundaries, there is such a thing as human nature that will sometimes take over.

Hormones do a lot to 7th grade boys. Yeah. They get horny. You just can’t expect to give four of them together an iPad and tell them to only use two certain apps and not look at anything else on there. Of course they’re going to look at the photos! It’s like looking at a traffic accident as you drive by. You just can’t help but rubber-neck.

School authorities are saying they had to suspend the boys because they broke school rules. I understand that to a certain extent, but why not some discipline for the teacher? This was a school-issued iPad, and she was uploading topless photos that may or may not be her on there. Had she not uploaded them, there would be no problem. Aren’t there probably school rules that apply here too?

Anyone else have Van Halen’s Hot for Teacher running in the back of their head right now?
