Developed by the Australian startup Lingmo International, this earpiece device has the ability to translate spoken conversations across English, Japanese, French, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, German and Chinese.
On sale now for $179 (£140), the Translate One2One uses IBM Watson’s natural language understanding technology to understand words and the context in which they are being spoken before delivering a near-instant translation to the user. The use of IBM Watson helps the device to overcome translation hurdles such as regional dialects and because it doesn’t rely on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity, it can be used on airlines and in remote areas.
The earpiece was unveiled at the United Nations AI for Good summit in Geneva last week and is now available to buy for $179 (£140) with shipping commencing in July. Other devices of this ilk have been developed but Translate One2One is the first to go on sale.
