The platform that Kickstarter.com offers is amazing, and checking out what great projects are seeking funding can be addicting. While serving my addiction, I came across one of the best projects to date from a Santa Monica, CA, company called FreedomPop. If you are the proud owner of a iPod Touch then you are in luck and witnessing the birth of the amazing Freedom Sleeve.
What makes the Freedom Sleeve so special is its ability to turn the iPod Touch into essentially a iPhone. You gain access to FreedomPop’s free 4G wireless internet so your iPod is no longer shackled by being WiFi only. This also allows you to use FaceTime on the go, and make phone calls from anywhere.
“FreedomPop is the nation’s first wireless Internet provider committed to eliminating the digital divide, delivering 100% FREE Ā 4G mobile broadband Internet access, connecting consumer devices virtually anywhere at anytime. FreedomPop has joined with leading mobile broadband networks to deliver the speed and flexibility of fast high speed Internet for FREE.”
The company needs to hit 2,000 pre-orders to get the product excuse the term kickstarted, and they are coming down the home stretch. For the production company they are using to exclusively produce their sleeve and no other product for a time period, they need 1,000 pre-orders. If you are one of the first backers of the product, you will get access to 1 GB free 4G data per month, otherwise they offer 500 MB free. Part of me is thinking of how much money consumers could save per month, and the other part wonders how cellular carriers will react.
