Previously, in tvOS 16, spatial audio support was limited to a single pair of Apple headphones. However, the latest beta version of tvOS 17 has extended this feature, enhancing the shared audio experience. As such, users no longer need to limit their immersive audio experience to solo viewing.
To try out the tvOS 17 beta version, users can enroll in Apple’s Beta Program and download it on their Apple TV. While the beta version has proven largely reliable, users should bear in mind that as it is a test version, it may still contain some minor bugs.
Initial reports point to a few minor limitations, such as the disconnection of the first pair of AirPods when a second pair is connected, or unequal audio volumes between the two pairs. However, these issues can be quickly resolved by simply rebooting the Apple TV 4K.
The only drawback when using two pairs of AirPods at once is the loss of the dynamic head tracking feature, as Apple currently does not support the tracking of two separate heads simultaneously.
The tvOS 17 update also introduces several other exciting enhancements. A redesigned Control Center ensures more effortless navigation, and users can now access FaceTime directly from their Apple TV. The Enhance Dialog feature for second-generation HomePods enhances audio for movie dialogues.
Perhaps the most exciting feature for some users is the new support for third-party VPN apps. This upgrade allows users to bypass geographical restrictions, enabling access to region-specific content from anywhere in the world.
As a result, Apple TV users can now enjoy an even broader range of content, such as the U.S. Netflix library, regardless of their physical location.
