Twitter has announced plans to offer podcasts on its platform.
The company launched Twitter Spaces back in 2020 as a way for users to host live audio sessions, where they can discuss TV shows, current affairs, and more. Since its launch, Twitter has launched a number of new features, like the ability to record sessions and play them back later, and now, Podcasts are coming to Twitter.
The company has confirmed that it will allow creators to upload longer-form audio content to the platform, and they will be integrated into the Spaces tab. Speaking of the news, Twitter said: “Integrating podcasts into Spaces, where audio conversations happen on Twitter, is another way we’re continuing to invest in audio creators. To do this simply and intuitively allows listeners to simply hit play and go; we started with a redesigned audio experience in the Spaces Tab.
“This redesign introduces personalized hubs that group audio content together by specific themes like News, Music, Sports, and more. Now Twitter listeners will be able to easily access a more personalized selection of live and recorded Spaces discussing the topics that are most relevant to them.”
The company says that 45% of people who use Twitter in the US also listen to podcasts monthly, and hopes that Twitter can become a new home for podcasts around the world. The company will begin rolling out the new Spaces tab with podcasts across iOS and Android in the coming weeks.
