Twitter announces new ‘Notes’ feature Users can now write up to 2,500 words on the platform

iPhone

Twitter has announced a new Notes feature, coming to its iOS app.

Although the social network is famous for its 280-character limit, the new tool would let people publish longer-form content such as blog posts, announcements, reviews, and other content to their followers.

The social network said that it was added due to the number of people posting screenshots to share announcements and news, particularly in the celebrity and entertainment world. The new Notes feature will initially roll out as a test in select markets in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada for two months, before a possible widespread release.

Experts say that the feature is Twitter’s way of keeping people in the ecosystem, rather than pushing them to third party websites and blogs.

Speaking of the launch of the service, Twitter said: “Since the company’s earliest days, writers have depended on Twitter to share their work, get noticed, be read, create conversation – everything but the actual writing. With Notes, the goal is to fill in that missing piece.”
