After serving as Twitter’s interim boss for the last three months, the site’s co-founder, Jack Dorsey, has just confirmed that he will take on the role of permanent CEO.
Dorsey will succeed Dick Costolo, who resigned from the post on July 1. Entirely appropriately, Dorsey made the news public on his Twitter page, pictured above – on which he also confirmed that he will continue as CEO of mobile payments firm Square.
We are naming @adambain COO of Twitter, we're working to change the composition of our Board, and I will serve as CEO of Twitter and Square!

Speaking to The Guardian, Vivian Schiller, formerly Twitter’s head of news, said that the company’s situation remained “very challenging”, but that now, “there will be a gigantic exhale – Twitter needs leadership”.
She observed that Twitter could opt “either to go deep, or to extend the product to compete with Facebook and Instagram”, adding that a CEO “who’s got the mandate and can provide marching orders for the entire organization is really needed.”
In either case, Dorsey’s big promotion should help the social media site towards a long period of stability following months of uncertainty and high profile staff departures.
