Twitter has announced plans to launch a 24/7 live video service.
The social networking company, which posted better-than-expected earnings results this week, says it will launch a live video service that runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The service, which will build upon the 800 hours of live content that it has aired in the first three months of 2017, will run inside of its apps and on its desktop site. It will be known as Twitter TV, or The Twitter Network, according to reports from Buzzfeed News.
“We will definitely have 24/7 video content on Twitter,” Noto said during an interview about the new service. “Our goal is to be a dependable place so that when you want to see what’s happening, you think of going to Twitter.”
The network, which is expected to consist of syndicated television shows, news, and original programming, will roll out in the coming months. It’s part of a strategy to position Twitter as an alternative to Facebook video ads. Twitter launched unskippable 30-second advertisements on its video earlier this month.
Other recent additions to Twitter include Twitter Lite, a stripped-down, Web-based version of its app, and new safety features that make it easier to block trolls from your account.
