Twitter is rolling out its new Tips feature to all users.
The social network began teasing a new tips feature earlier in the year for some users, allowing creators to receive money from followers, offering an alternative to websites such as Patreon and OnlyFans.
Twitter launched the feature to iOS users and now, it’s available to all users on the platform, with the company even adding support for cryptocurrency for the very first time. Speaking of the new feature, Twitter said: “People already drop links to their payment profiles in their bios and in their Tweets. Tips makes this easier to do, offering one fixed spot, right on your profile.”
The firm added that you can add your Cash App, Patreon, Venmo and other payment platforms to your account.
Twitter confirmed that Tips would be available on iOS first, with an Android rollout to follow later.
In order to tip a user, you’ll need to head to their profile and tap the new Tip icon, which sits next to the Follow button. You can then choose to tip users via Bandcamp, Cash App, Chipper, Patreon, Razorpay, Wealthsimple Cash, Venmo, as well as GoFundMe and PicPay. You’ll be taken away from Twitter to send money to the user, and Twitter won’t take a cut of the tip as any transactions are conducted through third party websites and apps.
Tips can also be given via Strike, which is built on the Bitcoin Lightning Network and allows users to offer free, instant payments via cryptocurrency. It’s only available in the US and El Salvador right now, but it’s thought that the platform will soon be added to other territories so users can tip creators with crypto.
