Twitter outlines new Super Follow feature, allowing for premium subscriptions

Twitter

Twitter has announced a new paid subscription service that will allow creators to charge for access to additional content, similar to YouTube Memberships and Twitch Subscriptions.

The company is calling the new feature Super Follow, allowing users to offer exclusive content, deals, and community access for just $4.99 per month.

It’s the first time users will be able to directly monetize their content on the platform and serve as an alternative to platforms like Patreon and OnlyFans, which both enjoyed some significant growth in 2020.

Users who subscribe to a creator through a Super Follow will enjoy a supporter badge, a subscriber-only newsletter, exclusive content, community access, and special discounts.

During an investor event, the company also announced some goals that it had set itself over the next two years, including the perhaps optimistic goal to double its annual revenue from $3.7 billion to $7.5 billion and reach 315 million daily active users in the third quarter of ‘23.

Following the announcement of the feature, “RIP Twitter” trended on the social network, as fans were concerned that it would change the face of the app and ruin the community spirit.
