Unicode announces new batch of emojis for next candidate release

A new batch of emoji could be making its way to your iPhone or Android device next year; at least if a new candidate release from Unicode has anything to do with it.

Although the latest round of emojis – which includes a zebra, dinosaur and breastfeeding woman – are yet to be released, Unicode has confirmed that a new batch of icons would be pushed through as “draft candidates” for a release in Unicode 11, which will arrive sometime in 2018.

67 new icons have been proposed by the group, including a smiling face with a party hat and a streamer, a blue face with icicles, an ‘OK’ eyes emoji, and an inverted version of everyone’s favourite “poo” emoji, known as a frowning pile of poo.

While no inclusions have been finalised, here’s a look at the proposed new emoji.

Emoji’s tenth batch will be released to coincide with Apple’s iOS 11, which hits this September. To view the latest proposed emoji, which are currently known as “draft candidates”, visit the Emojipedia website.
