Upgraded iPhone 7s said to be thicker to accommodate wireless charging

We already know that earlier this month reports claimed that the upgraded iPhone 7s would be thicker to switch to glass backing and wireless charging. More recently, however, TechnoBuffalo suggested that a trusted and reliable source has leaked detailed information on the device’s dimensions.

According to the leak, the phone will be “bigger in every dimension” meaning that they will be wider, taller and thicker than those before them. Only slightly larger than the iPhone 7, the new 7s will measure 138.44 mm x 67.26 mm x 7.21 mm and the 7s Plus will increase from 158.2 mm x 77.9 mm x 7.3 mm to 158.37 mm x 78.1 mm x 7.41 mm.

This increased size has been attributed to a switch to glass backing which will accommodate the expected wireless charging. This design has appeared in multiple dummy leaks that have also shown that the new design will be limited to only three colors: black, silver and gold.

The larger size will go largely unnoticed with most users but it will be evident in the iPhone 8 which is expected to be larger again with an all-glass, bezel-less design. Apple’s famous media event is due to take place on September 12 where a new line of smartphones including the iPhone 7, iPhone 7s Plus and the iPhone 8 will make their first appearance alongside a new Apple Watch model and a 4K Apple TV.
