Users can now record 15-second snippets of gameplay from Apple Arcade and other games using the upcoming versions of iOS, macOS, and iPadOS when they have a third-party game controller connected to their device.
When users long press a designated button on the controllers, Apple will automatically capture 15 seconds of gameplay and save it to the user’s camera roll so they can share it with friends, on social media, or YouTube.
Rather than having to start and stop a screen recording when playing a game, users on iPhone, iPad, and Mac can capture a highlight – for example, if they win a boss battle or open a rare treasure chest – and have the content saved to their devices immediately.
On the Xbox Series X/S controller, for example, there’s a dedicated Share button, which will automatically save content.
It’s good to see Apple further investing in its Apple Arcade service and gaming on iOS and macOS, and we can’t wait to see what else has been added when we delve deeper into the new iOS 15 beta.
