Verizon offering subscribers six months of Apple News+ with any iPad activation Could this change the fortunes of Apple News+?

Apple has partnered with US carrier Verizon on a new Apple News+ promotion.

For the next few months, any Verizon customer who purchases an iPad will be eligible for a six-month subscription to the premium news service. The deal is designed to drum up some interest in the News+ service, which has struggled to make any meaningful traction this year.

Apple currently offers Apple News+ for $9.99 per month, where users can access more than 300 premium newspapers, magazines, and digital outlets’ content without advertisements.

Any iPad customer who hasn’t previously held an Apple News+ subscription will be able to take advantage of the new deal. Apple says that, if you’ve already tried Apple News+ for one month, you won’t be eligible for a six-month subscription – instead, you’ll get five months.

According to insiders, the new deal will be limited to one redemption per Verizon account, but it’s important to note that Apple News+ can be shared with up to six family members.

Eligible customers will receive an email from Verizon, offering them information on how the free service works, and a reminder when the trial ends. Previous Apple/Verizon promotions include Apple Music, but this is offered as part of the price plan rather than a subscription.

Publishers who currently offer their content on Apple News+ have reportedly been unhappy with the returns from the service. Apple, therefore, has begun experimenting with new ways to win over subscribers – and one could be a bundle, set to be announced later this year.

Apple is also planning a new premium audio section for the service, converting popular stories and articles into miniature podcasts that can be enjoyed on the way to work. Apple would do the legwork for these pieces of content, rather than the publishers themselves.
